LANGTHORNE YOUTHFEST 2007

Who would have believed after the weather we have had, that Saturday would turn out to be the best day for the whole month.

We opened our event with the Tom Hood African Drums and then the leader of the Council, Cllr Clyde Loakes, opened the event. Leyton Orient Community sports started their tournament and within moments of the event opening, the gyroscope had a queue as did the climbing wall, trampolines, bouncy castle and ball pond. All the stalls were busy - . I don't think the team on the tattoo's stopped all day; everyone in Leytonstone must have had one.

At 3pm Ade joined the event and did us proud. He spent the whole day signing autographs, playing basketball with the youth (and us oldies) and gave a great speech. I would like to thank him very much for all he did, everyone was impressed.

We had great acts, from bands like Outta Fashion, dance acts like JPMD, rappers like Kushe Fam, and our smaller youth singing solo such as Jordan Lee. The whole day was filled with talent from our local youth. Well done to all of you, you were great.

There are so many people to say thank you to. The main supporters are at the bottom who have donated money etc. but there are also people who came just to support our event, so I will try to remember them all. Thank you to our local councillors who have supported us, especially Terry Wheeler who has been a part of this event since the beginning in 2006. To the Metropolitan Police, especially our Cathall Safer Neighbourhood team, who have also been involved since last year, and worked especially hard this year. I love to give them a challenge and I know by the end of the day they were glad to go home. But thanks to all of them who were at the event, hopefully we didn't give you too much of a hard time. You did your community proud! Thanks to the Youth Service who have been to every meeting, and were at both events. To Anna Rinaldi from Surestart, who has been there for the event, to Jane Bruseke, Nick Tiratsoo and all at SLADA who have helped organise this event. Also thank you to the Waltham Forest Street Wardens and Rev Ian Harker who have been an important part of this. We must also thank Greenspace for the use of the park and all their help in allowing us to use their building for meetings etc., especially Park Keeper Audrey who once again was a star.  If I have forgotten anyone, then thank you too.

But most of all I would like to thank everyone who attended this event. We think there were roughly about 1,500 of you, you were brilliant and we all hope you will be there next year.
